The Cold War policy of containment led the United States to become increasingly involved in events in Vietnam. If it wasn't for the Cold War policy of containment the United States wouldn't have been as involved in the war, but political pressures in the United States led the nation to become more deeply involved in the civil war in Vietnam. Very many American soldiers were sent to fight in this war and not very many would make it back. If they even came back they were injured physically or mentally. The events that had happened in Vietnam were harsh and as the media poorly censored the war more and more people began protesting the war and wanted the U.S. troops out of Vietnam.
Later when Nixon took office, he moved to end the nation's involvement in the Vietnam War and withdrew the troops. Approximately 58,000 young Americans had died and more than 300,000 were injured, Americans alone. In Vietnam around one million North and South Vietnamese soldiers died in the war, as did countless civilians.
